A generalization of the Coulomb Gas model with modular SL(2, Z)-symmetry allows for a discrete infinity of phases which are characterized by the condensation of dyonic pseudoparticles and the breaking of parity and time reversal. Here we study the phase diagram of such a model by using renormalization group techniques. Then the symmetry SL(2,Z) acting on the two-dimensional parameter space gives us a nested shape of its global phase diagram and all the infrared stable fixed points. Finally we...

In order to provide an estimate of eps'/eps several effective theories and physical effects have to be disentangled. In this talk I discuss how it is possible to predict eps '/eps taking into account all sources of large logs. The numerical result one obtains, $\eps '/\eps \sim (1.7\pm 0.6) \cdot 10^{-4}$, is in good agreement with present measurements.

We calculate the surface critical exponents of the ordinary transition occuring in semi-infinite, quenched dilute Ising-like systems. This is done by applying the field theoretic approach directly in d=3 dimensions up to the two-loop approximation, as well as in $d=4-\epsilon$ dimensions. At $d=4-\epsilon$ we extend, up to the next-to-leading order, the previous first-order results of the $\sqrt{\epsilon}$ expansion by Ohno and Okabe [Phys.Rev.B 46, 5917 (1992)]. In both cases the numerical...

Saunders was an attorney who sued WMATA in 1973 to stop construction of the Metro's Red Line under Yuma Street NW. This collection is comprised of oral histories collected by Dr. Zachary Schrag, a professor at George Mason University, as research for his dissertation on the history of WMATA. The dissertation eventually became The Great Society Subway, a book published by Schrag in 2006.

This is a study of percolation in the hyperbolic plane and on regular tilings in the hyperbolic plane. The processes discussed include Bernoulli site and bond percolation on planar hyperbolic graphs, invariant dependent percolations on such graphs, and Poisson-Voronoi-Bernoulli percolation. We prove the existence of three distinct nonempty phases for the Bernoulli processes. In the first phase, $p\in(0, p_c]$, there are no unbounded clusters, but there is a unique infinite cluster for the dual...

Using time correlated single photon counting combined with temperature dependent diffraction limited confocal photoluminescence spectroscopy we accurately determine, for the first time, the intrinsic radiative lifetime of single excitons confined within semiconductor quantum dots. Their lifetime is one (two) orders of magnitude longer than the intrinsic radiative lifetime of single excitons confined in semiconductor quantum wires (wells) of comparable confining dimensions. We quantitatively...

Perturbative QCD analysis is presented of the cumulative out-of-plane momentum distribution in the near-to-planar e+e- annihilation events, K_out < < Q. In this kinematical region multiple gluon radiation effects become essential. They are resummed with the single-logarithmic accuracy, which programme includes the 2-loop treatment of the basic radiation and matching with the exact O(alpha_s^2) result. Dedicated experimental analyses of 3-jet event characteristics are of special interest...

We develop theoretical formulas for the prediction of the rupture of systems which are known to exhibit a critical behavior, based solely on the knowledge of the early time evolution of an observable, such as the acoustic emission rate as a function of time or of stress. From the parameterization of such early time evolution in terms of a low-order polynomial, we use the functional renormalization approach introduced by Yukalov and Gluzman to transform this polynomial into a function which is...

Lorentz symmetry violation (LSV) at Planck scale can be tested (see e.g. physics/0003080) through ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR). In a deformed Lorentz symmetry (DLS) pattern where the effective LSV parameter varies like the square of the momentum scale (quadratically deformed relativistic kinematics, QDRK), a 10E-6 LSV at Planck scale would be enough to produce observable effects on the properties of cosmic rays at the 10E20 eV scale: absence of GZK cutoff, stability of unstable...

Integrated guidance-control systems have the potential to improve missile system performance by taking advantage of the synergism existing between subsystems. These systems allow the designer to impose unusual performance requirements on the missile. Such requirements may arise out of the new sensor and warhead technologies that may require complex maneuvers at target interception. Integrated guidance-control techniques of missiles incorporating fixed-aim warheads are discussed in this paper....

>A review of meson emission in heavy ion collisions at incident energies around 1 -- 2 $A\cdot$GeV is presented. It is shown how the shape of the spectra and the various particle yields vary with system size, with centrality and with incident energy. A statistical model assuming thermal and chemical equilibrium and exact strangeness conservation (i.e. strangeness conservation per collision) explains most of the observed features. Emphasis is put onto the study of $K^+$ and $K^-$ emission. In...

We compute off-shell three- and four-tachyon amplitudes at tree level by using a prescription based on the requirement of projective invariance. In particular we show that the off-shell four-tachyon amplitude can be put in the same form as the corresponding on-shell one, exhibiting therefore the same analyticity properties. This is shown both for the bosonic and the fermionic string. The result obtained in the latter case can be extended to the off-shell four-tachyon amplitude in type 0 theory.

The paper provides a brief description of the prophetic career of Brothers (b.1757) in 18th-century London; a summary of the literature on...

Let $M$ be a simple 3-manifold with a toral boundary component. It is known that if two Dehn fillings on $M$ along the boundary produce a reducible manifold and a toroidal manifold, then the distance between the filling slopes is at most three. This paper gives a remarkably short proof of this result.

Most of interactions which participate in energy dissipation are included in the numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation. Cross-sections are calculated either analytically or by using PYTHIA Monte Carlo program. This paper describes in detail our simulation. On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of bosons with delta-function interaction in a one-dimensional potential well, the thermodynamics equilibrium of the system in finite temperature is studied by using the strategy of Yang and Yang. The thermodynamics quantities, such as specific heat etc. are obtained for the cases of strong coupling limit and weak coupling limit respectively.

The field of neutrino physics is currently very exciting, with several recent results pointing to new physics. I will give an overview of the current experimental situation, focusing primarily on neutrino oscillation results. The data are not entirely consistent however, and puzzles remain. I will then review the new experiments which are poised to solve the outstanding puzzles.

The spectrum of very fast electrons in five-lepton decay $\mu^+\to e^-e^+e^+\nu\bar\nu,$ that is the main background decay at the study of the muonium-antimuonium conversion in vacuum, is considered. The essential decrease of the spectral distribution is demonstrated when the energy of one positron in this decay is small. Some arguments for such decrease for arbitrary positron energies are given.

We show that an R-parity violating supersymmetric scenario which can account for the atmospheric nu(mu) deficit has testable signals at the Fermilab Tevatron with upgraded energy and luminosity. The explanation of neutrino masses and maximal nu(mu)-nu(tau) oscillation in terms of bilinear R-violating terms in the superpotential associates comparable numbers of muons and tau's resulting from decays of the lightest neutralino. We show that this should lead to like-sign dimuons and ditaus with...

I. Raptis and R. Zapatrin in the quant-ph/0010104 show possibility to express general state of $l$-qubits quantum register as sum at most $2^l-l$ product states. In the comment is suggested more simple construction with possibility of generalization for decomposition of tensor product of Hilbert spaces with arbitrary dimension $n$ (here simplicial complexes used in the article mentioned above would not be applied directly). In this case it is decomposition with $n^l-(n^2-n)l/2$ product states.
